Volkswagen Genuine Timing Belt.
The timing belt is connecting the camshaft and crankshaft of your engine together. It is responsible for keeping precision of engine operation as it keeps the rotation of both shafts synchronized. The timing belt is located on the front end of the engine.
What happens to the timing belt?
Timing belts are mainly made of rubber. Overtime, due to heat from the engine, the belt starts to stretch. Overstretching could cause the belt to jump one of its teeth leading to incorrect timing between the camshaft(s) and crankshaft. Which in terns will lead to damage the engine parts (engine head valves and pistons). A visit to your authorized dealer will tell you if the belt needs replacing.
After an extended working period, these timing belts should not stretch. If the timing belt snaps, the pistons will strike the valves that are left open, bending or breaking them. At least, it will then be necessary to install a new cylinder head. If worse comes to worst, even the most reliable engine will give up within seconds.
Caution:
The use of non-genuine timing belt with unknown quality could stretch or even wear down in short time and get torn. Also incorrect specifications and dimensions could differ from the genuine part.
What we do:
After 45,000 km to 55,000 km or 4 years (whichever occurs first) we visually inspect your timing belt for any wear. If necessary and after consultation with you we replace the timing belt and the associated tensioner. We reassemble the engine and test drive your car for optimal performance.
